Luna Tuna - Guitar Tuner for iOS
LunaTuna is a simple but powerful chromatic guitar tuner for iOS. It also works on macs with M1 chips.
It recognizes the frequency of played notes and tells you if you need to tune higher or lower.
The name LunaTuna was chosen because the white dot looks like the moon.
You can change the base frequency of 440 Hz for those rare occasions or to drive your bandmates crazy.
Here are some tips for using the app:
- tuning should happen in a silent environment, as noise gives the algorithms a hard time
- if you are tuning low output instruments like unplugged electric guitars, move the microphone close to the strings, especially for the low notes
- if you are using an iPad, note that the mic is not at the bottom like with an iPhone, but at the top (at least for the model that I tested with)
- try to pick in a way that gives you a sustaining tone without detuning the string from too strong picking

FAQ
I am trying to tune my bass, cello, another low frequency instrument but the app does not detect the pitch
There is a bass cut / ignore bass setting that is on by default. If you tune a low frequency instrument (C#2 and below), please just uncheck the setting!
The reason for adding this setting was to make the app less vulnerable to low frequent noises.
If you have the extension pack and choose a tuning with low notes, the bass cut is ignored automatically!
How to tune with a capo on my guitar?
You can use the transpose setting to have the tuner show the notes you are used to when using a capo. For that just set transpose to the negative capo position - so when you have a capo on the third fret, set transpose to -3!
Transpose functionality is part of the extension pack.
